our program
Our program is designed with
your child in mind. As your child grows and develops, our program will
grow and develop to meet their current needs—both academically and creatively
as well as socially and physically. Looking for the “Aha!” moments in
a child’s day and inspiring them through art, science, music, math,
dance, language and the world around them is what learning is about
at Apple Seed Little School. Sometimes that may even just be curling
up in a lap and checking out the clouds, or reading their favorite book
for the 100th time. Whatever the inspiration may be, we go on a wonderful
journey.
Play is the primary focus of a child’s day, while one of ours is to infuse their play
with intellectual integrity. The mainstay of this balance is language. Even before
they can talk, children are full of questions. For example they may notice a tree
while out for a walk. Our job is to pick up on this and give them some information
about it: “Do you see the tree? Do you hear something in it? I hear a bird.” As they
get older the information base expands, as do the questions: “Is that tree green?
How about the trunk? What kinds of animals live in the tree?” Looking for the
questions and providing the keys to the answers unfolds a new and exciting world
of learning. Even a small thing like a tree noticed on a walk gives us so many
wonderful opportunities for experiencing and learning: counting leaves, picking up
leaves and making a collage, checking out the veins of the leaves, planting a tree,
and asking questions—could you live in a tree? So much to explore and do!
Here at Apple Seed, I enroll children in specific age ranges to facilitate two basic
needs: First to create a program that grows with the children and, secondly to make
room for children to be both nurtured and nurturer while they are here at Apple Seed.
Nurturing is such an important aspect of life, we try to encourage it wherever we can.
